More than 50 residents gathered at the Dundurrabin Community Centre to celebrate the stories, memories and connections that make this much-loved hall the heart of the community.
Built by volunteers more than 40 years ago using locally sourced timber and handmade mud bricks, the Centre continues to bring people together through markets, celebrations, meetings, music and community events.
Over a shared meal and conversations around the fire, community members reflected on what makes the hall so special.
The hall speaks for itself – it is here for the community.
It’s a place with good vibrations, no anger and no animosity.
The event brought generations together, with younger community members proudly sharing what the hall means to them.
This hall brings us all together.
We want people to know our hall is welcoming and everyone belongs.
One of the most powerful outcomes of the day was seeing people reconnect. A local resident who had experienced significant isolation following the Black Summer bushfires formed new friendships through shared conversations about music, highlighting the important role community gatherings play in reducing isolation and supporting wellbeing.
The event also celebrated the volunteers whose dedication continues to keep the hall thriving and strengthen community spirit for future generations.
