RAMHP has proudly supported the annual cricket match between Pooncarie and Anabranch at Dareton in the Far West of NSW for the past eight years.
Sholto Douglas is the driving force behind this annual event, which brings joy to many and has also played a crucial role in raising awareness about mental health.
As the cricket match enters its ninth year, Sholto is excited about the future. The event continues to grow, attracting more participants, more spectators, and more attention each year. But for Sholto, the heart of the event remains the same: In a remote region where services can be stretched, it has inspired others to seek help.
Marie Kelly (previous RAMHP Coordinator in Ivanhoe) was instrumental in supporting this annual event and said, “the value of these events is immeasurable. I’ve had the privilege of listening and offering support when local people are doing it tough.”
This year, RAMHP Coordinator, Judy Carmody attended the event and was amazed at the turnout. “It can be difficult to maintain social connections in isolated rural areas, but events like these bring people together and as we know, being socially connected is so important to good mental health.”
