What a spectacular backdrop it was for the cinema under the stars event held in the Megalong Valley. This small, close-knit community has been significantly impacted by landslides in recent years, effectively isolating them, so it was a chance for them to come together for a night of entertainment.
Featuring the movie ‘Babe’, the event attracted over 60 people with popcorn and slushies on offer and free vet checks from Hartley Valley Vets for the community’s four-legged friends.
“Couldn’t have asked for a better day! Thank you!”
“It was magical!”
Lithgow based RAMHP Coordinator, Sonia Cox was on hand at the event to remind people how they can protect their mental health.
The Megalong Valley Community experienced a really trying year last year with the landslide that cut them off for an extended period and this is still affecting the community. Meaningful, inclusive community engagement is important for fostering a sense of belonging and wellbeing among individuals but also promotes stronger more resilient communities.
The Megalong cinema night was a wonderful evening, you felt the community warmth, genuine care and friendship among all those there. I felt so humbled to be welcomed into the community and happy that in my capacity as a RAMHP Coordinator, I was able to provide the evening for the community to bring them all together in a positive way.
Thank you to the Megalong Valley community, especially Claudia Abbott for being my go-to person, to Dr Cillian from Hartley Valley Vets for attending to all the fur babies who came along and to the Blue Mountains City Council and in particular Vicki and Michelle who also attended to support the event.
