Introducing Kourtney Orman

RAMHP are thrilled to welcome Kourtney Orman to the team as our Tamworth based RAMHP Coordinator.

Kourtney is a born and bred Tamworth local, with two beautiful girls Alice (3 ½ yrs) & Eleanor (1 ½ yrs).

Kourtney has been in the non-government sector for the last 14 years, having worked in a variety of roles including Administrative, Case & Family work as well as Management. Kourtney is also an R U OK Community Ambassador, signing on with the organisation in 2022 having found a passion for suicide awareness and education training.

What are you looking forward to most about working with RAMHP?

I’m really excited to join the team and love the diversity and opportunities that we can work in, dependent on the needs of the community at the time. The program has such a good mixture of individual connections, stakeholder relationships and being able to facilitate programs is really exciting and I believe aligns well with my personal passions for men’s mental health and suicide intervention.

I also come from a farming family, with my nan and pop having had a property and have some very fond memories growing up in the rural lifestyle. Unfortunately, following my pops passing and the start of one of many droughts, my family had to sell out of the farm, so I have a great appreciation for our farmers and the agricultural sector and just how much they endure.

What are some of your favourite activities, which you do to keep mentally healthy?

When I’m not in mum mode, I really enjoy reading, cooking, catching up with friends – love a good pub feed and schooner!

Is there a person in your life who has inspired you in a positive way?

I try to look for inspiration from people that I meet every day – I feel like everyone you cross paths with has a story and being able to hear and learn these stories is such a privilege and incredibly grounding.

My Grandma was a very important part of my life as well as one of the most resilient and strong women I knew. I sadly lost my grandma in 2020 following her third battle with Breast Cancer, but I don’t think I would be the person I am today if it weren’t for her.

If you had a chance to talk to your 10-year-old self – what would you say?

Tough one- firstly, don’t be so hard on your parents in the next few years to come (sorry mum and dad). But also, probably just reassure myself that things will be ok. Don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself, take risks, be open and willing to learn and be your own biggest supporter first and foremost.
