READ the PLAY

‘READ the PLAY’ is a mental health literacy program designed for the junior levels of sports clubs. It delivers information about mental illness through engaging the young players in fun and interactive games, thereby helping to remove the stigma and increase help-seeking behaviour.

The program was piloted in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) during 2014 and 2015 by being delivered to two clubs within the Wagga and District Junior Football & Netball League and two clubs in the South West Junior Football & Netball League.

The program is delivered at the club by mental health workers including RAMHP, in conjunction with the club’s Player Wellbeing Officer. The format of the program is interactive and designed to engage young people through a series of team games.
