The Carinda Rugby Club, home of the Carinda Cowboys – has hosted many community events on Carinda’s social calendar but there hasn’t been a team in the local competition since the 2004 season.
The committee members and volunteer helpers keep the club going. For the population of 165, without the home games to bring the community together, the club is as important for Carinda as ever.
Like most rural communities, a sporting club is about more than a place to play sport. It is a place to host social gatherings, barbeques, and fundraising events. The facilities offer a place for the Carinda locals to welcome caravaners in from the main roads, and for the annual ‘Let’s Dance’ Bowie Festival (on the October long weekend again, after Covid and flooding hiatus).
It’s a place where people of all ages come together, to catch up with friends, to have a laugh and to support one another. It’s a place where people feel a sense of belonging.
During difficult times, the club provides support for local families and reminds everyone that they are part of a caring community.
As part of the Halls with Heart project, RAMHP and our friends from NALAG supported a Family Fun Day at the club. The event provided a valuable opportunity for locals to come together, throw a steak on the BBQ and have a yarn.
